Water Color & Acrylic
Hide-And-Seek (Watercolor)
I practiced using watercolor to paint portraits during summer break. My twin sister and I had a lot of fun playing together during our childhood, and this painting brought back those sweet memories.
Surprise (Acrylic Paint)
Immediately upon seeing this artwork you can spot a little goldfish in the center. But what is it doing in a canister of canned peach? Through this artwork, I wanted to show how human activities have forced other organisms to the brink of extinction. We take away their ecosystem, and in addition we also pollute what little resources they have left, including the air, land and water. The goldfish in the drawing is forced to swim in syrup, representing how aquatic organisms have a hard time surviving all of the trash and waste we put into their habitat. The dark red background also represents the smog that fills the air due to CO2 emissions.
Nothing Gold Can Stay (Oil painting 24"x 33")
Inspired by the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost
My Dream (Acrylic Paint)
Flying has always been our dream, but what about whales? Penguins? Will they want to swim through the sky and dance among the birds? I imagine they do. After all, if humans can dream, who said other animals can't? So I dreamed, dreamed that my painting sprung into life, a river sprouted into the clouds and guided the whales to their own dreams, giving them wings and helping them fly. And one day, because we imagined, we can fly towards our own dreams as well.
Chinese Painting
I studied Chinese Painting for 3 years, from 2016 to 2019, and immensely benefited from this learning experience. It is very challenging to draw on a piece of very thin paper using Chinese paint with a variety of brushes. But failures and continuous endeavor helped me develop a sharper focus, better hand control, and higher sensitivity to colors. I also gained deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
