Ballerina Colored Pencil (17in x 33in)
Although I am a fan of surrealism, I enjoy drawing realistic subjects to improve my basic skills in art, such as this ballerina. I learned ballet for 6 years and my own experience as well as the opportunity to closely observe ballerinas helped me tremendously with completing this piece, especially with how to concisely show the beauty of ballet as a type of art.
Grandpa Pencil (18in x24 in)
Her Colors Pencil and Colored Pencil (18in x 16in)
With the centerpiece based on a statue in Florida, I wanted to show a reflection of our inner selves. When I first saw the figure, webs of cracks and lines showed its age. Yet the greenery spilled out from her chest was still full of color and vitality. Although its outer appearance has deteriorated alongside the progression of time, as long as our heart still beats with a wonder for the world, what withered would only be a shell of ourselves. After all, isn't what's inside that really matters?
Summer Colored Pencil (17in x 14in)
Summer is a time for life to flourish in every direction. Whether it is the crops, the animals, or the budding flowers and trees, green always fills our vision. How wonderful it would be for them to melt together and intertwine until they become a cascade of colors. I wished I could be covered in that, close enough that my body could melt into summer colors.
2020 Colored Pencil (17in x14in)
2020 was a year of the mouse, unpredictability, and wishful thinking. What would come to the sound of the new year's horn? An ending to the life we had always known or a new beginning to something less than "normal."? But no matter the outcome, whether the message at the end was doom, joy, or continuation, the sun will always rise, and the moon will always set, bringing a new day and fresh blossoms of spring.
